7: The Fall — From Spirit Life to Blood Life

2.1 God’s Original Life Flow

Before the Fall, Adam and Eve lived by spirit-sustained life — a divine vitality flowing directly from God.

  • Genesis 2:7 — “The LORD God…breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
  • They were not sustained by blood circulation as we know today but by God’s Spirit, which carried incorruptible life through them.
  • They were clothed in light and glory, not dependent on food for survival in the same way mortals are.

2.2 The Serpent’s Lie

  • The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil was not merely about diet — it represented a gateway to a different life source.
  • Genesis 3:4-5 — “Ye shall not surely die…ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”
  • The serpent’s deception introduced sexual reproduction outside of God’s perfect plan, shifting mankind from Spirit-born life to blood-dependent life.
  • This was permissive will, not God’s perfect will — a detour that brought mortality.

2.3 From Immortality to Mortality

Once Adam and Eve partook, something fundamental changed:

  • Genesis 3:7 — “The eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked.”
  • They lost the robe of light and glory, becoming dependent on blood circulation to sustain life.
  • Death entered — Romans 5:12 — “…by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men.”

2.4 Expulsion from Eden

God drove them out, not only to prevent rebellion from spreading but to protect the Tree of Life from being misused.

  • Genesis 3:22-24 — “…lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever.”
  • Living forever in a sinful, blood body would mean eternal corruption — something God would not allow.

2.5 Redemption Foreshadowed

Even in the judgment, God gave hope:

  • Genesis 3:15 — The promise of the Seed of the woman — pointing to Christ.
  • Through Jesus, humanity could be restored to Spirit Life and eventually to glorified bodies without blood.

2.6 Symbolic Insights (Echoes of Eden Perspective)

  • Spirit Life → Blood Life: A downgrade in God’s creation order.
  • Perfect Will → Permissive Will: God allowed a temporary reproductive method after the Fall.
  • Loss of Glory → Need for Redemption: The entire Bible is the story of restoring God’s sons and daughters to their original estate.
